Calling a contractor about building something on your property can feel like a commitment before you’ve even had the conversation. You’re not always sure what to ask, what your options are, or what your property can realistically support.
We start with questions, not quotes. Our goal is to understand what you’re trying to build, how you want to use the space, and what will actually work for your property.
If you’re a homeowner in the Kawarthas, Peterborough, Durham Region, or Simcoe County thinking about a garage, workshop, bunkie, shed, deck, or home addition, we’re here to help you talk through the possibilities before anything gets built.
Home additions. You need more space, but you’re not moving. Whether it’s expanding your living area, adding functional space, or improving how your home works, we build additions that integrate with the structure that’s already there.
Accessory buildings. Detached garages, workshops, bunkies, sheds, and other structures that support how you use your property. These buildings add storage, workspace, and flexible living space outside the main home.
Residential construction projects vary widely depending on the property, the structure being built, and how the space will be used. If you’re planning agricultural structures or commercial facilities, those projects follow a different process and are covered on their respective pages.
We regularly work with homeowners planning structures that expand how their property functions.
Custom-built garages designed for vehicle storage, workshop space, or equipment. We build structures that fit your property and how you actually use the space.
Dedicated workspace for hobbies, trades, or equipment. Backyard workshops give you room to build, repair, and work without taking over the main garage.
Small detached buildings that create extra sleeping space for guests, family, or cottage properties while keeping the main home comfortable and uncluttered.
Practical structures for tools, outdoor equipment, and seasonal storage. Built to protect what you own and keep your property organized.
Custom decks and outdoor structures that extend your living space outdoors, creating room for relaxing, gathering, and enjoying your property.
Traditional heavy timber structures that combine strength, craftsmanship, and open interior space for specialty buildings and larger accessory structures.
N.S. Custom Contracting delivers high-quality workmanship and service through custom barn renovation solutions tailored to your barn’s unique situation.
Durable, energy-efficient roofing solutions for barns, homes, and commercial buildings in our Ontario service region.
We build residential structures using traditional stick-frame construction — wood framing with 2x4s, 2x6s, and conventional carpentry methods commonly used across Ontario.
Stick-frame construction provides flexibility when building garages, workshops, additions, and other residential accessory buildings. Layouts can be adjusted during construction, and details like window placement or interior configuration can evolve as the project takes shape.
It’s not always the fastest method, and it isn’t always the cheapest. But for residential structures, stick-frame construction adapts well to different properties, building types, and long-term changes if the structure is modified or expanded later.
Accessory buildings solve practical problems for property owners — creating space to store equipment, work on projects, house vehicles, or accommodate guests.
Detached structures like garages, workshops, bunkies, and sheds allow homeowners to expand how their property functions without changing the main home itself. When planned properly, these buildings add both practical value and long-term usability to the property.
Every structure is built with the property layout, access, grading, and intended use in mind.
We show up when we say we will. We explain what’s happening and why. If something changes — weather, materials, or a design adjustment — we let you know before it becomes a problem.
Building on your property is personal. You’re living on-site, or you’re about to. We treat your property accordingly. That means managing mess, keeping noise reasonable when possible, and not leaving tools scattered across your driveway.
We handle sub-trades when needed — electricians, plumbers, HVAC — so you’re not coordinating five different contractors.
Things come up. A delivery gets delayed. The weather doesn’t cooperate. A measurement needs adjusting. We deal with it and keep the project moving.
Some contractors treat every job like a race.
That doesn’t work for garages, workshops, additions, and other residential building projects — not if you want them built properly.
Construction takes time because decisions matter. You’re choosing layouts, thinking through how the building will be used, and making sure everything fits the property and the way you actually use the space. Rushing through that usually creates problems later.
We’re not slow. But we’re not cutting corners to shave a week off the schedule. If you want thoughtful pacing and room to make solid decisions, that’s how we work.
We also build agricultural buildings and commercial structures. Those projects follow a different process and are handled through their own project planning and timelines.
If you’re not sure where your project fits, just tell us what you’re planning to build and we’ll point you in the right direction.
If you’re planning an accessory building, garage, workshop, bunkie, shed, deck, or home addition, the next step is a conversation.
We’re not going to show up with a contract and a sales pitch. We’ll ask questions, listen to what you’re trying to build, and talk through what makes sense for your property.
You can reach us by phone or email.
If you want to talk it through, we’re here.
